When I read the lesson plan, all the process verbs are the same, they align. Next I use those same verbs to design and plan learning tasks for students. STAGE 2- Assessment or Measuring Outcomes I listed in my citizenship journal the important characteristics of citizenship I worked in a group to discussed issues, built consensus and voted I established, explained, and apply criteria in discussions and in my journal I will evaluated rules and lawsin my journal entries and in discussions I selected leaders I wrote about the value of community service on my infographic I solved problems that arose during the project I resolved conflicts that arose during the project Then I use the red process verbs from the objectives to determine how students will demonstrate the know and can do the objectives STAGE 1- Objectives- Measurable Outcomes I willknow the important characteristics of citizenship I will discuss issues, build consensusand vote I will establish, explain, and apply criteria I will evaluate rules and laws I will select leaders I will recognize the value of community service I will solve problems I will resolve conflict. It is from these process verbs that I will create my objectives know the important characteristics of citizenship recognizethat it is important for citizens to fulfill their public responsibilities be able to exercise political participation by discussing public issues, building consensus, becoming involved in political parties and political campaigns, and voting be able to establish, explain, and apply criteria useful in evaluating rules and laws be able to establish, explain, and apply criteria useful in selecting political leaders recognize the value of community service and be able to implement ways of solving problems and resolving conflict. A student should have the knowledge and skills necessary to participate effectively as an informed and responsible citizen. What follows is a description of the three UbD phases and explore-before-explain teaching (aligns with Stage 3) as well as how UbD plays out in practice for teaching middle school students about how light behaves when it encounters different mediums (NGSS Lead States 2013).
